At the beginning of May, the Swiss army was training about 4,000 soldiers in the four cantons of Bern, Geneva, Vaud and Neuchâtel. (archive image)

The defense group of the Federal Public Service Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) announced this on Monday. In addition to air and ground troops from the Swiss army, members of the Federal Office of Customs and Border Security (BAZG), the police force and the French army are also involved in the exercise.

The exercise led to the movement of tanks and trucks and helicopter flights over Lake Geneva and Neuchâtel, the defense group said. The impairments would be limited to the minimum necessary to conduct the exercise, it said. On April 24, a hotline for the population was put into operation.
