Italy’s blacklist has existed since 1999. The fact that Switzerland has now been removed from this list “removes an administrative hurdle in fiscal relations between the two countries,” according to a press release.
Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter (59) is pleased with the press release: “With this statement, two important outstanding tax issues between Switzerland and Italy can finally be resolved.”
Both parties have also agreed on a mutual agreement. They want to sign this once Italy has approved the legal basis for the deletion. The mutual agreement contains a temporary arrangement for the taxation of cross-border commuters who work from home. It is valid from February 1 to June 30, 2023.
The blacklist has long clouded relations between Switzerland and Italy. At the end of last year, Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis (62) called the fact that Switzerland was still on Italy’s blacklist an “unnecessary annoyance”.
