The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EDA) is closely following the situation in Sudan, it said on Wednesday evening at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. The crisis management center has been running a crisis cell since the outbreak of fighting last weekend.
The Swiss embassy in the capital Khartoum remains available for emergency assistance as far as possible, but is closed for visits and visa applications, according to the FDFA.
The Foreign Ministry in Bern is “constantly examining options and measures that can be taken based on different scenarios,” it said. The FDFA is in contact with third countries and can participate in the rescue measures of other countries.
On Wednesday afternoon, a mission of the German Bundeswehr and other armed forces that had already started and wanted to fly out of Sudan in need of protection was halted due to security concerns.
