From 2024, the federal government wants to spend less money on combating extremism than before.

The Bundesrat plans to spend CHF 250,000 less than before on combating extremism. He announced this on Wednesday. CHF 750,000 is still planned.

The loan is intended to support measures and projects to prevent and counter radicalization and violent extremism for five years, as announced by the Federal Council. According to a national action plan, the focus is on young people and a critical approach to the internet and social media.

Parliament can still discuss plans

In concrete terms, the Federal Council extended the validity of the corresponding legal basis until the end of June 2028. The regulation allows the Confederation to provide financial support to projects of cantons, municipalities, cities, educational institutions and civil society organizations.

The new funds should be available from January 2024. The condition is that Parliament approves the budget for the following year and subsequent years. (SDA)
