The Bundesrat on a journey

Federal President Alain Berset is ceremoniously received in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Nearly half of the Federal Council is currently traveling. True to the motto: “A lot of walking makes you feel good at home.”

Federal President Alain Berset (51) is currently visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo and will meet President Félix Tshisekedi (59) there, among others. Reason for the trip: talks on bilateral relations, as announced by the Federal Council.

Another important topic is a UN peace and stabilization mission in the Central African country, which has been active since 1999. Switzerland is involved in this with, for example, police forces and deminers. Alain Berset will also meet peacekeepers, regional authorities and partner organizations on site.

Keller Sutter in Washington

While the Federal President is on the African continent, Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter (59) traveled to the US. After the billionaires’ defeat to an extraordinary session on the CS debacle, the FDP federal councilor flew to Washington.

She certainly would have preferred to leave with more positive headlines. Because she participates in the spring conference of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG). Together with the president of the National Bank, Thomas Jordan (60), she will hold a press conference in the US on Friday evening (CEST). Questions about Credit Suisse should also be front and center for an international audience.

Parmelin in Canada, Cassis in the Vatican

Economy Minister Guy Parmelin (63) has also caught the travel bug. He is currently in Canada on a working visit. There he met, among others, his Canadian counterpart François-Philippe Champagne (52) to intensify Swiss-Canadian cooperation.

Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis (62), just back from the US, will be abroad again from the middle of next week. He is drawn to Rome and the Vatican for a three-day working visit.

There he wants to meet, among others, Cardinal Pietro Parolin (68), Secretary of State of the Holy See, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher (69), Secretary of State for State Relations. Cassis also wants to inaugurate the new headquarters of the Swiss embassy to the Holy See. (Okay)
