“The power supply is the big problem”

First assessment after 100 days: Federal Councilor Albert Rösti presented himself to the media on Friday morning.

It’s no secret: of all renewable energy sources, Albert Rösti (55) prefers hydropower. Before his election to the Federal Council, as president of the Swiss Water Management Association, he lobbied for higher sheet piles and more hydroelectric power plants.

It is therefore not surprising that the new energy minister invites people to the old river power station in the Matte district of Bern. There he will take stock of his first 100 days in the Bundesrat from 10 a.m. and – more interestingly – provide information about his political plans.

He will soon enter the voting campaign

There is no shortage of work for the SVP Federal Councillor, as he is responsible for Switzerland’s secure energy supply. In this capacity, he will soon face his first voting campaign. He must defend against his own party the “Electric Guzzlers” law passed by parliament, which is intended to promote the expansion of renewable energy.

But Rösti also controls the highways, the railway network and the post offices. What does he plan to do with the public service? And how does the Minister of the Environment intend to promote biodiversity?

Rösti will provide information from 10 a.m., Blick reports live from the media conference. (sf)
