Switzerland votes again on Corona measures

class=”sc-3778e872-0 cKDKQr”>

Nicolas Rimoldi, president of the Mass-voll movement, presents the third referendum against the Covid law.

“Covid is history,” Roland Bühlmann, co-chair of the Friends of the Constitution, said at the Federal Terrace in Bern, where the signatures were handed over to the Federal Chancellery. “The Corona measures made no sense and do not make sense.” Therefore, the Covid law should be repealed as soon as possible.

The law has been in force since September 2020 and has since been amended several times by parliament; the current version is valid until the end of June 2024. The Swiss electorate has so far supported the legal basis for pandemic measures in two referendum votes.

It’s about the certificate

The latest referendum is against the extension of individual provisions of the Covid-19 law of December 2022. This includes, for example, the legal basis for issuing Covid-19 certificates.

According to Nicolas Rimoldi, president of the Mass-voll movement, this certificate is “no longer necessary”, as he said in an interview with the Keystone-SDA news agency. “We want the population to finally be left alone.”

The referendum commission accused both the Bundesrat and the parliament of lying. Their corona policy was “never effective”.

Voting will take place on June 18

For the referendum to take place officially, 50,000 certified signatures are needed. “We did it,” Rimoldi assured. About 60,000 certified signatures would be handed over to the Federal Chancellery by Thursday evening. “We are still eligible for a referendum,” Bühlmann said.

The voting date is set for June 18 – about four months before the federal election. On Thursday, Rimoldi left open whether members of the civil rights movement will run for seats in parliament. There are several conversations going on, he said.

According to Rimoldi, it is certain that Mass-voll and the Friends of the Constitution will soon submit a new citizens’ initiative. The so-called sovereignty initiative aims to strengthen Swiss fundamental rights.
