The Bernese financial director Astrid Bärtschi presents a gratifying annual financial report. (archive image)

The Canton of Bern closed its 2022 annual accounts with a profit of CHF 358 million. In the 2022 budget, the finance department had planned a deficit of CHF 88 million.

With this positive result, the deficit of 73 million francs from 2021 can be compensated, Bern’s financial director announced on Tuesday.

Earn more, save more

The good result is due to the fact that the canton received about CHF 220 million more on the one hand and spent about CHF 220 million less on the other than planned.

The investments cost the canton CHF 47 million less than planned. A balance sheet surplus is reported for the first time since 1990, the canton writes in its statement. (SDA)
