SP swatter for Juso star Ronja Jansen

Last summer, Ronja Jansen handed over the chairmanship of Juso to Nicola Siegrist. She would have liked to continue her political career in the National Council.

Cédric Wermuth (37) made it, just like Fabian Molina (32) and Tamara Funiciello (33). They have all been elected to the National Council in recent years as former Juso bosses. Now former Juso chairman Ronja Jansen (28) wanted to do the same. However, her party colleagues have refused her an official candidacy.

As chairman of the Young Socialists, Jansen had acquired national fame. She resigned last summer and was promptly elected to the district of Basel in the spring. However, her main goal was always the Federal Palace.

It was not until the beginning of March that she publicly announced that she wanted to run for the National Council elections in October. “I want to continue my commitment to the National Council in the future and work there for affordable rents, health insurance premiums and a fair tax policy,” she explained to various media.

But nothing comes of that. The representatives of the Baselbieter SP gave Jansen a basket on Saturday. In addition to the previous two, Eric Nussbaumer (62) and Samira Marti (29), they preferred five other candidates. Jansen stays behind.

Jansen: “Disappointment is great”

In advance, Jansen’s ambitions would have caused disagreement within the party, which the SP has always openly denied. “If I had been in her place, I would have waited at least four years,” the anonymous party members of the “Basler Zeitung” quoted. And former state councilor Claude Janiak (74) complained that Juso was already “sufficiently” represented in the federal parliament.

For Jansen herself, the non-nomination is a bitter blow: “The disappointment is of course great, I need time to process the whole thing,” she explains to “20 minutes”. She can’t say more about it at the moment.

Amazement in the Federal Palace

Funiciello or Molina are also hesitant to comment on “20 minutes” and officially do not want to comment on the non-nomination. But otherwise young SP celebrities in particular would have to rub their eyes in surprise. Jansen will have to wait at least until 2027 to continue her political career at the national level.

On the other hand, SP subdistrict chairman Miriam Locher (40) can have hope. Even if she doesn’t win the election outright, her chances of slipping into the National Council aren’t bad. Because in 2024 Nussbaumer will probably be elected chairman of the National Council. Many assume that after this peak he will end his political career. (dba)
