“The CS employees are scared, they are sad,” says Natalia Ferrara, director of the bank employees’ association.

After the takeover of UBS, Credit Suisse (CS) is threatened with massive job losses. UBS employees are also likely to be affected. Uncertainty among employees is high – especially at CS. Because: nobody knows at the moment who will be affected by the wave of layoffs and what the schedule for it will look like.

The Swiss Banking Association (SBPV) therefore started a petition on Friday. In it, he calls on UBS, CS and the authorities to immediately stop firing before the end of the year. No employees may be laid off until the end of the year.

Received hundreds of letters

However, the SBPV assumes that jobs are at risk in all areas at both major banks. It is said that the areas where a lot of job cuts could be made depend on the integration strategy, which is not yet known.

“It is a scandal if the bank is bailed out with taxpayers’ money, but the employees are ruthlessly rejected. There are about 17,000 jobs at CS alone,” SBPV director Natalia Ferrara told Blick.

“We have received hundreds of letters. The workers are scared, they are sad – and they don’t know what to expect for them and their families,” says Ferrara.

Working group on planning

The SBPV is committed to ensuring that the management boards of both major banks inform employees and social partners transparently about the implementation plans, she communicated on Tuesday this week.

“We want to set up a task force with CS and UBS to discuss all HR matters together,” explains Ferrara. This is currently being planned.

information and advice

“The thousands of employees are not responsible for the bank’s downfall,” says Ferrara. They should not be footing the bill for management’s mistakes. The solidarity of all bank employees and the population is now needed, said the SBPV director.

She hopes that as many people as possible will sign the petition. Information and advice for bank employees can also be found on the dedicated website.
