“CS forces us to get to the point”

Group leader Roger Nordmann demands that the National Council adopt stricter banking rules.

SP party leader Roger Nordmann (49) wants to move forward. “CS forces us to get to the point,” says the MP. In the bureau of the National Council, quasi the leadership of the National Council, he requests that all advances of party member Prisca Birrer-Heimo (64) about “Too big to fail” be brought to the special session in May. “Then the Council of States can conclude ‘Too big to fail’ in June and we will soon have more effective rules for Credit Suisse and Co,” says Nordmann.

The SP leadership had already made it clear on Thursday that they did not just want to watch how the major bank, whose register of sins has been growing for years, is being helped. The party supported the bailout of the Swiss National Bank (SNB) – if only because of the many jobs at risk at Credit Suisse. But the shareholders of the bank, from the SP’s point of view, should not make the big money while the taxpayer bears the risk.

Bank party FDP?

“It is a crash with an announcement,” says SP co-chair Cédric Wermuth (37). It is imperative that those responsible for the misery are finally held accountable. That’s exactly what one of Prisca Birrer-Heimo’s advances wants.

Wermuth did not want to shoot the Liberals on Thursday in response to a journalist’s question. A journalist wanted to know if the CS case showed that the FDP was guilty.

Should the Conservatives in parliament oppose Birrer-Heimo’s advance, the left would still have an opportunity to clarify where the interests of the respective parties lie.

Shares for the SNB

For group leader Roger Nordmann, however, it is key that the general public be compensated for the risk of CHF 50 billion. According to the SP, the SNB should get CS shares for its help so that the National Bank would benefit financially if the CS price recovered. (pt)
