No construction of power plants in biotopes and reserves

In particular, systems for the use of renewable energy in biotopes of national importance and in water and migratory bird reserves should be excluded. Newly emerging glacial forefields and alpine alluvial plains should be an exception here and should therefore generally be considered for use.

Last autumn, the Council of States wanted to relax the protection of biotopes and water and migratory bird reserves – until the goals laid down in the law are achieved. Now it’s the small room’s turn again. Today, new installations for the use of renewable energy in biotopes are excluded.

According to further decisions of the National Council, the cantons will be given the task of designating suitable areas in their structure plan not only for hydropower and wind energy, but also for solar energy systems in the national interest. The implementation of protection, replacement and repair measures can be waived.

According to the National Council, photovoltaic systems, wind power plants and river power plants should also be of national importance from a certain size. If the expansion targets are not met, the Bundesrat must also recognize small and minor installations as being of national importance.
