Criminal charges against the public transport company of St. Gallen

There is a suspicion of document forgery, according to a joint statement from the BAV and the transport company VBSG on Wednesday. According to BAV media spokesperson Andreas Windlinger, the suspicion is aimed at a specific person.

Details about the VBSG’s person and construction project would not be made public for privacy reasons, Windlinger told Keystone-SDA news agency. The forgery was discovered in February 2023 when the BAV and the VBSG exchanged views on another subject.

Cobbled together from other documents

The forged building permit was compiled from parts of other documents and dated to a Sunday in December 2022, the BAV spokesperson said. The document was relatively easy to identify as a forgery.

The BAV had already halted the approval process for the affected construction project in February 2022. The BAV had requested additional documents for the project from the VBSG, but never received them.

So far no construction work has started

The presumption of innocence applies, write the BAV and the VBSG. “The VBSG supports the clarification of the case and distances itself in all forms of the procedure.” According to the clarifications, no construction work had started on the basis of the forged building permit.

Construction projects for public transport usually have to be approved by the Bundesamt für Transport. The BAV checks whether all relevant regulations – for example for safety – are observed. (SDA)
