Blick’s headline sparked outrage last week. The National Council did not want to know about a complete adjustment of the cost of living for AHV pensioners. It would have been five to twelve francs a month. The Council of States followed a day later.
The alarming: At the same time, the bureau of the Council of States decided with a clear majority on the parliamentary initiative “Reimbursement of the cost of living for the incomes and pensions of the members of the Council”. The future subsidy was also well received in the office of the National Council. Here, too, approval was great. According to Adam Riese, a 3.2 percent cost-of-living adjustment would see the National Council add 4,240 francs per year. The States Councils can be happy with an extra 4560 francs.
Now, however, the wage increase should already be off the table – long before the Council of States decides on such a wage increase in the summer and the National Council in the autumn.
After the SVP had spoken out against the subsidy from the start, the FDP now also wants nothing to do with it. On Tuesday, the parliamentary party unanimously decided to reject the plans. “In the current tense financial situation, this would be irresponsible,” the FDP writes on Twitter.
“It would mainly be an incomprehensible sign from parliament,” party chairman Thierry Burkart (47) added. Earlier, SVP and FDP voted against the allowance for AHV pensioners. The pressure to at least make a decision immediately would have been high.
The center is also skeptical, although no decision has yet been made. “Since AHV and IV do not have a full contribution to the cost of living, there is no reason for me personally to treat us parliamentarians differently,” explains party leader Philipp Matthias Bregy (44).
Earlier feedback shows that a large part of the middle group thinks this way. “We have to lead by example,” says Bregy.
One thing is clear: the opponents of inflation adjustments already have a majority. Even if the other factions haven’t covered it in detail yet. (dba)
