After the solar offensive, the National Council also wants a wind energy offensive: it passed the urgent federal law to speed up the approval process for wind farms. The law still has to go to the Council of States.
Only the SVP faction opposed the decree during consultations on Wednesday, but was unable to prevail. It consists of an amendment to the Energy Act and the Federal Courts Act.
The standard procedures for wind farm approvals are suspended for a certain period of time, namely until wind farms with an additional capacity of 600 megawatts are built in Switzerland compared to 2021.
During this time, the cantons must issue building permits for wind energy projects in the national interest. As a rule, this is what the municipalities do today. The condition for this is that there is a legally binding usage plan. In that case, an appeal against the building permit can in principle only be made to the highest subdistrict court.
