New FDP member Garcia votes against climate alliance for the first time

There is already a petition online. The petition is entitled: “Isabel Garcia, Resign!”.

“Your action has serious consequences for the canton of Zurich. That’s why we can’t let this party change stand as innocent,” the text of the petition reads.

Garcia himself largely dismisses the criticism. The first canton council meeting after her party change took place on Monday. And promptly – as predicted by her political opponent – ​​she voted against the Climate Alliance.

Admittedly, it was not an earth-shattering vote and was only about “improving the urban climate with trees”. But it’s a first sign. Garcia, with council number 126, voted against with the FDP. But it was no use. The agenda item was approved with 85:82.

However, in the case of more controversial templates, every vote counts. In addition to the GLP, the climate alliance also includes the SP and the Greens.

Unsurprisingly, Garcia is getting support from her new party. With the transfer of Isabel Garcia, she not only got an experienced politician, but also got another seat on the Zurich cantonal council. For example, her new party member and Bernese FDP national councilor Christian Wasserfallen (41) is outraged by the attacks on Garcia.

While he understands some voters’ disappointment, these personal attacks on Garcia are beyond him. He said this in a tweet on Sunday. When asked by Blick, Wasserfallen said, “Ms. Garcia switched to the FDP because she could no longer identify with the GLP course. That has been drifting further and further to the left lately.” He is particularly disturbed by the “Wild West style” poster, describing it on Twitter as “incendiary”.

GLP is not giving up its seat yet

The former party also spoke on Twitter this weekend. The voters from districts 3 and 9 in Zurich voted Green Liberal and would like to be represented as such. That is why attempts are now being made to convince Isabel Garcia in talks that she will return her seat to the GLP.

At the same time, the party clearly distanced itself from defamatory attacks against Garcia and called for a refrain from “personal attacks” against her former party colleague.

Garcia was elected to the Zurich cantonal council on February 12 for her former party, the Green Liberals (GLP). Just eleven days later, Garcia announced her departure from the party. She immediately switched to liberal competition. She took the seat on the cantonal council to the FDP. An insult to many left-wing voters.
