Government Council Aargau adjusts assistance to inflation

With the adjustment, the government council of Aargau follows the recommendation of the Conference of Cantonal Social Directors (SODK).

In order to convert this recommendation into cantonal law, the government council has amended the regulation on social assistance and prevention, the State Chancellery announced on Friday. The basic need for social assistance increases from CHF 1,006 to CHF 1,031 per month for a single-person household. That is 25 francs more per month.

In order to ensure a stable level of social assistance and the purchasing power of affected households, it is necessary to adjust the basic need for social assistance to inflation.

The basic need in the social assistance benefits covers expenses for, for example, food, clothing, energy, household and transport.

In the canton of Aargau, the municipalities are responsible for the implementation of social assistance. The adjustment of the cost of living for basic needs means additional administrative work for the municipalities, so the change will not take effect until May 1, the State Chancellery reports. (SDA)
