The question of whether Ukraine should be left because otherwise there is a risk of nuclear war no longer arises: “Because the time for such a decision has already passed,” said Cassis. “The Western world has decided to stand up for law over power. She wants to help Ukraine win the war.” But it was a choice between “plague and cholera” – “both can kill you.” Cassis sees the potential for nuclear war as a given.

Swiss participation in the reconstruction of Ukraine

The reconstruction of Ukraine will cost thousands of billions of dollars. “Switzerland will also have to participate in this – and probably not with the money we use today in international cooperation,” says Cassis. Swiss aid must be a consistent contribution beyond current humanitarian aid for several years. “This is a generational project. There will probably be an international Marshall Plan in which Switzerland will participate,” speculated the foreign minister.

The Federal Council intends to provide an additional CHF 140 million in emergency aid to Ukraine and Moldova. He had decided that on Wednesday – two days before the anniversary of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Arms deliveries are still not in question.
