Two out of three teachers have experienced violence in the past five years. This is what the umbrella organization of teachers in Switzerland (LCH) writes in a statement. He wants to present a study on Monday.
One thing is certain: the teachers experience both psychological and physical violence. And the cases are increasing. Some of these have made headlines in recent years.
As was the case in March 2018 at a vocational school in the canton of Lucerne. At the time, the school management issued a restraining order for a student (17) because of threats to teachers. Yet after three months he returns – and beats his teacher to the hospital.

Or the incident in April 2019 in the canton of Friborg. There, a high school student grabs her teacher, 50, in class, throws him to the ground and continues to beat him. Classmates have to help. The teacher suffers minor injuries.
In June 2019, there was a scandal at the Chestenberg district school in Möriken-Wildegg AG. A seventh grader (14) hits his teacher and breaks her jaw. She only wanted to check the Syrian’s backpack because he had come to school once with a stabbing weapon.
Large number of suspected unreported cases
It also degenerated in March 2022 in the primary classes of a school in Goldach SG. When a teacher wants to settle a dispute between two students, she herself is beaten by a third grader.
However, it is usually parents who cause problems with teachers. What is sad is that a large number of unreported cases are suspected of both psychological and physical violence.
