The popular initiative launched in March 2019 aims to enshrine the separation of construction and non-construction zones in the federal constitution and aims to freeze built-up areas outside construction zones. This goes too far for the farmers. They are afraid that they can no longer work economically. They argued for a “sensible” indirect counter-proposal.

According to the farmers’ association, modern agriculture cannot exist without modern buildings. Economical use of land is mandatory, but it must remain possible to erect and expand modern buildings.

In concrete terms, this concerns stables, greenhouses, roofs and warehouses, but also energy and sales buildings. It is important that buildings can be built close to cultures and animals.
