In the future, employees should be able to choose whether to deduct their professional expenses in a lump sum or effectively on their tax returns, as the Federal Council announced on Wednesday. This should simplify the deduction and, in particular, make no difference between working from home and working in the company.

The finance department will determine how high the flat rate will be. It should have no financial consequences for the federal government. Therefore, the figure is currently expected to be in the order of 6,000 francs. The lump sum should also apply to cantonal taxes. How high this is there is left to the cantons. The consultation will last until April 4, 2023.
