The canton of Aargau has again received the highest rating (AAA) from the international rating agency Standard & Poor’s. The eight cantons of Basel-Stadt, Basel-Landschaft, Vaud and Zurich examined so far have the same credit rating.
The rating agency Standard & Poor’s has underlined the consistently positive annual results of recent years, the sharp fall in debt and prudent financial management, the Aargauer Ministry of Finance and Resources said on Saturday.

The canton was downgraded by the rating agency in 2018 and has since held an AA+ rating.
According to the announcement, the assessment took into account the application for CHF 240 million financial support for the Cantonal Hospital Aarau (KSA) and the likely lack of a benefit from the Swiss National Bank (SNB).
The AAA rating leads to slightly lower interest rates for the state of Aargau and for the Canton Bank when borrowing money. (SDA)
