The capacities in the federal asylum centers are at their limit. One reason for this is the war in Ukraine. Switzerland continues to take in people seeking protection from Ukraine. On the other hand, regular asylum applications continue to rise, the Federal Council writes.
In order to continue to cope with this situation, the army is providing the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) with additional accommodation and army personnel to set up and operate the infrastructure.
The SEM, together with the army, has already increased the number of reception places from 5,000 to more than 9,000 beds since the spring and has recruited extra staff for care and safety. However, according to the Bundesrat additional resources are needed.
