Are we close to a gas bottleneck? Are the peacocks running low? The online portal with the unwieldy name “Energiedashboard.admin.ch” has been providing information about this since Wednesday.
However, according to the federal government, better data is needed to reliably measure the energy savings of the Swiss.
The most important key figures
It must become clearer and faster whether the austerity measures are sufficient or whether bans or, in the worst case, quotas are needed. The “Swiss Energy Dashboard” of the Swiss Federal Office for Energy (SFOE) shows the most important key figures on the supply situation: data on electricity and gas consumption, price developments for electricity, gas, heating oil and petrol. This in combination with the temperatures.
“The supply situation for electricity and natural gas is currently ‘tight’, but ‘guaranteed’,” the portal says. According to the information, the assessment of the situation is based on statistical information and assessments by the responsible authorities on the development of the supply situation.
Data is being corrected
Due to the energy crisis in Europe, there are still fears that electricity and gas could become scarce at the end of winter. With the public data, the federal government wants to encourage the population to save.
You will see the electricity consumption, production and electricity import data of the neighboring countries from the previous day. However, there is still a lack of reliable data, especially when it comes to consumption. The SFOE therefore uses models, as explained on the website.
The information about electricity consumption is primarily based on data that the energy suppliers report to the national grid operator Swissgrid. However, this data may be incomplete or incorrect and is also corrected from time to time.
Portal is being developed further
Timely data are currently not available, therefore consumption must be estimated using a model based on the past. The same model is also used for the forecast for the coming days.
To get an idea of gas consumption in Switzerland, net imports from three days ago are shown. The gas flows from Switzerland are deducted from the gas flows to Switzerland. This gives an indication of the current consumption of natural gas, but the import cannot be equated with this, the site says.
According to the SFOE, the portal will be further developed in the coming weeks, with the data quality in particular being continuously improved. (SDA)
