According to a survey, the federal government’s calls to save energy are being taken to heart by the vast majority. 96 percent of those surveyed in Switzerland said they would help save energy – by turning off the lights, not bathing or cooking with a lid on.
According to the representative survey of 2,500 people that online retailer Digitec Galaxus published on Tuesday, women and the over-50s in particular responded to the austerity calls.
The energy saving tips were least popular among 15 to 29 year olds. The younger generation, on the other hand, was willing to take more trains and leave the car in the garage. However, some respondents did not even have a driver’s license or a car.
Only 4 percent do nothing
Overall, less than 4 percent of those surveyed said they didn’t use energy-saving tips. In Germany, the same percentage participated in energy conservation as in Switzerland, in Austria the figure was slightly higher at almost 98 percent.
According to a separate survey of 500 people, French speakers are more likely to avoid driving (40 percent) or to use energy-efficient household appliances (41 percent).
The respondents from German-speaking Switzerland, on the other hand, were more likely to declare war on standby mode: 60 percent said they consistently switch off devices when they are not in use. (SDA)
