“I want to save Switzerland”, Philipp Gut (51) explains his candidacy for the National Council rather dramatically to the “Aargauer Zeitung”. The former deputy chief of “Weltwoche” is particularly disturbed by the fact that the state increasingly wants to dictate to the people. Gut’s candidacy was launched by SVP National Councilor Andreas Glarner (60). The cantonal board of Aargau still has to approve the candidacy on December 8.
The political career changer is known, among other things, thanks to a chaotic “Club” show, in which moderator Barbara Lüthi had to ask him several times to voice the other participants. He has also been convicted of defamation twice. Gut recently accused the Federal Council of alleged “vaccination” and called on Health Minister Alain Berset via “Weltwoche” to “finally tell the truth”.
More celebrities for the SVP at the start
Good is not the first celebrity to join the race for the SVP next year. Extreme athlete Evelyne Binsack (55), the first Swiss woman to climb Mount Everest, recently announced that she wants to become a Bernese SVP national council member. Roger Köppel (57) has already made it in the National Council. The Zurich resident is currently editor-in-chief of “Weltwoche” and at the same time a member of the SVP Parliament since 2015. With SVP National Councilor Peter Keller, there is another National Councilor with a “Weltwoche” past (51) in the National Council.
Well-known ex-journalists can also be found on the other side of the political camp. Former SRF moderator Ueli Schmezer wants to join the National Council for SP Bern. However, the moderator, known from the program “Kassensturz”, encounters resistance from the SVP. SVP National Councilor Lukas Reimann (40) wants to keep SRF moderators out of national politics.
