SP candidates appear in Lausanne

Evi Allemann, Elisabeth Baume-Schneider and Eva Herzog attended a second hearing in Lausanne on Tuesday evening.

Evi Allemann, Elisabeth Baume-Schneider and Eva Herzog attended a second hearing in Lausanne on Tuesday evening.

In a relaxed atmosphere, 44-year-old Bernese government councilor Evi Allemann, 61-year-old State Councilor Eva Herzog from Basel-Stadt and her Jura colleague Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (58) answered the questions during their only stop in French-speaking Switzerland.

About 50 comrades and sympathizers gathered in a room that was not overcrowded. They were joined by party leaders such as Vaud National Councilors Roger Nordmann, Ada Mara and Samuel Bendahan and former Vaud State Councilor Anne-Catherine Lyon.

“Evi, Eva and Elisabeth” were asked to name their recipes for solving various political problems. Topics included purchasing power, tax competition, lack of nursing staff, healthcare costs and dealing with refugees. The three Federal Council candidates made similar statements.

Baume-Schneider had the advantage of speaking in her mother tongue. The two German-Swiss women sometimes searched for words for the French-speaking Swiss audience.

On Monday evening, the three candidates were presented at a first hearing in Lucerne’s Neubad by SP co-chair Cédric Wermuth and then questioned by those present.

Which of these three women will lose in terms of the Bundesrat ticket will be decided this Saturday. Then the SP faction decides who gets the ticket for two.

Before that, however, there are still two public hearings: the three politicians will appear in Zurich on Wednesday and in Liestal on Thursday. With the hearings, which the party is holding in this form for the first time, the party wants to give its members and the population the opportunity to get to know the candidates for the Bundesrat. Election day is December 7.
