Justice Minister Karin Keller-Sutter (58) appeared before the media today and informed about the launch of the “Sexual Violence” dialogue. The Federal Councilor of the FDP gathered actors from the federal government, cantons and practitioners for this purpose.
The dialogue round focuses on advising and supporting victims of sexual violence, training law enforcement agencies and courts and improving the data available for reporting and investigating sexual violence.
Dialogue must create political commitment
According to the EYPD, the actors in the dialogue took stock at the first meeting. In addition to confidence-building guidance and support for victims, the dialogue is about training law enforcement agencies and courts and data on sexual assault.
According to the EJPD, the dialogue is intended to create political commitment. In the spring, it will be merged with the “Domestic Violence” dialogue and coordinated with the National Action Plan for the implementation of the Istanbul Convention.
Step-by-step plan against violence against women
Attorney General Keller-Sutter presented a dialogue on domestic violence last year. The federal government and the cantons had developed measures to better protect victims of domestic violence. This roadmap was treated as a milestone in the implementation of the Istanbul Convention.
Sexual violence will also be an important topic in the winter session of the House of Representatives: the councils are currently discussing a revision of the sex criminal law. (SDA/bgs)
