Six members of the right-wing extremist organization Junge Tat unleashed a police operation on Sunday with a disruptive action in the city of Basel. They climbed onto the roof of the Basel station building and put up a banner.
A reader who was there reports: “In the beginning they had trouble rolling out the poster properly. After a few minutes they did. The poster read ‘Deport Criminals’ and next to it were two sheep. I called the police before my tram arrived.”
Memories of SVP poster
The image of the banner is said to be a reference to the SVP’s so-called sheep poster from 2007. The controversial poster had served as an advertisement for the deportation initiative. It showed a red area with a white cross and three white sheep kicking a black sheep out of the area. In addition, the text “Create security” was on it.
The People’s Party takes note of the fact that the Junge Tat is taking over the SVP campaign for its action. “The motif has already been adopted by left-wing groups. Something like this cannot be prevented at all,” says SVP Secretary General Peter Keller (51) when asked by Blick.
“Hypocritical outrage” is now out of place. “It remains to be seen whether the people at the time agreed to the deportation initiative and whether we were promised a ‘spicy execution’,” emphasizes Keller. “This democratic mandate has not been fulfilled to this day.”
The cantonal police in Basel-Stadt confirmed an ongoing police operation shortly after noon. In the afternoon, the police announced that six masked people had been arrested. Because the people refused to take off their masks, they were taken to the police station for a thorough identity check. You are threatened with charges of trespassing and other crimes. Not only had they unrolled the banner, they had also ignited plumes of smoke. (obf/man/dba)
