Either the left-wing parties will have three seats after the 2023 Bundesrat elections – or the SP will have to leave the Bundesrat. The Juso deputies made this demand at their Saturday meeting in Basel.
The deputies followed a resolution from their management with 90 yes to 41 no votes, the young party announced on Saturday evening.
The end of the magic formula
“We want more power or we go into opposition,” said Nicola Siegrist, 25, chairman of Juso, the Keystone-SDA news agency. When asked about the risk that the right could then take more seats in the Federal Council, Siegrist said the Juso did not want a seat on the Federal Council at any cost. The magic formula of the past thirty years has had its day.
The crisis-ridden world needs a strong left that positions itself consistently, the young party said in a statement. De Juso therefore called on her mother party to create perspectives to bring about fundamental changes.
On Saturday, the deputies rejected a stricter resolution that would not have made the SP’s departure from the Bundesrat conditional. Juso Switzerland will now discuss its position in the committees of SP Switzerland.
Federal Council candidates under cross-examination
The two candidates for the Bundesrat Eva Herzog (BS) and Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (JU) also answered questions from Juso. According to the communiqué, it was about how you, as a federal councilor, would use the current situation and the available opportunities for a socially just policy. (SDA)
