Juso-Spitze wants to send SP to the opposition

Did it soon play out for the SP district council members?

Who will succeed SP Bundesraadmember Simonetta Sommaruga (62) in the Bundesrat? If the board of the Young Socialists gets its way, no one will eventually.

On Saturday, more than 100 Jusos will gather in Basel for a party meeting to discuss a new management demand. And she has the talent. The young people of the left questioned going into the opposition.

“Breaking through the right-wing majority of the FDP and SVP should define the SP’s condition for participation in the Bundesrat,” Juso boss Nicola Siegrist (25) told Blick. In concrete terms, this means that the SP must withdraw from the government if three left-wing federal councilors are not elected in the parliamentary elections in December next year.

No friends of the magic formula

But even among the Jusos, the idea is highly controversial. Because a left-dominated Bundesrat is about as realistic as a seat in the state government for the Juso itself. So why do you want the SP to evade government responsibility in the future?

Participation in a government dominated by the bourgeoisie inevitably weakens the forces of the left, the application to members said. In addition, the “right-wing politics” of the Federal Council will be consolidated, with the participation of left-wing minorities.

“With the current composition, ie a majority of FDP and SVP, intolerable templates will remain,” Siegrist suggested torpedoing the current magic formula. For him, this also includes the new, highly diluted CO2law and the latest AHV reform, which was advocated by the SP federal councilors against their own party.

“Berset became an enemy”

In particular, the yes vote campaign for the AHV reform by SP Minister of Social Affairs Alain Berset (50) caused confusion within the left camp – about what the SP position was now. “Berset also became an enemy, especially in the feminist movement,” says the Juso newspaper. However, it is doubtful whether the policy of the state government will become more left-wing once the SP leaves there.

Federal Council candidates as guests

For some, the proposal of the Juso board does not go far enough: a counter-resolution that has already been drafted is even more extreme and calls for the immediate resignation of the SP federal councilors from the government. If the Young Socialists agree with one of the two motions, they want to submit the claim to parent party SP.

Their delegates should then have the opportunity to vote for these ideas as well, says the Juso boss. It is completely unrealistic that the SP delegations are in favor of this.

However, one can certainly question whether the Jusos themselves believe in the success of their claim. Because talks are being held at the same time as the exclusion of the SP federal council members, a hearing with the two SP federal council candidates Eva Herzog (60) and Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (58) is also scheduled.

That hardly makes sense if you actually want to be in the opposition.
