After the rejection of the Bernese National Councilor Flavia Wasserfallen (43) on the same day, the Social Democrats still managed to send a young mother into the race.
Eva Herzog (60) should follow Thursday morning. The former financial director of Basel and current member of the Council of States will appear before the media at 9.30 am and probably also announce her candidacy there. She is already being traded as the real favourite. In any case, Wasserfallen did not want to compete with her and announced on Wednesday that she would not run for the office. In the SP everything comes down to a duel between Eva and Evi.
Herzog is also well received by ordinary people
Eva Herzog has a lot of political experience, has been in the cantonal government for 14 years and is one of the safest financial politicians in the country. And especially on financial issues, she often politicizes on the right-wing of her party. It is also well received by common people.
In fact, for Herzog the place on the SP two-ticket is a greater barrier than the election for the Bundesrat. Because once she is on the ticket, “she has a good chance of success in the House of Representatives”, several MPs are convinced.
With the candidatures of Allemann and Herzog, public attention should turn away from Daniel Jositsch (57). The Zurich Council of States was the first to publicly announce its candidacy for the seat of the Federal Council. His bad luck: the party leadership relies on a purely female ticket, which Jositsch finds discriminatory. In the group, attempts to reverse this decision would be hopeless.
