Glue activists are a subject for the Zurich Governing Council

On October 14, climate activists from Renovate Switzerland blocked traffic on Bellerivestrasse near Utoquai in Zurich.

Activists from “Renovate Switzerland” have lingered on Swiss streets several times in recent weeks. They want to draw attention to climate protection.

The consequences of these actions were not only annoying drivers and traffic jams, but also potentially dangerous situations. Not only private drivers are affected by the actions, but also emergency services from ambulance, fire brigade or police.

Are activists liable?

In a request from the governing council published on Wednesday, cantonal councilors from the EPP, SVP and Mitte therefore want to know how the emergency services should proceed in an emergency: remove the glued activist hands from the street by force or make the injured wait longer for help?

It is a dilemma, the parliamentarians write. They therefore want to know whether there are instructions for dealing with this dilemma. They also want to know whether the activists are financially liable if, for example, an ambulance does not arrive on time at an event.

There has already been a case in Berlin where an ambulance was thwarted by activists attached to it. Last week a cyclist was run over by a cement mixer. She succumbed to her injuries a few days later.

The tone towards climate activists is getting louder

A special fire service vehicle, which should have lifted the concrete mixer, was stuck in a traffic jam due to a “last generation” glueing action and arrived late at the accident site.

However, as it later became known, its use would not have changed the health of the 44-year-old cyclist anyway. Two activists have yet to answer for, among other things, not providing aid.

After the accident, the tone of climate activists in Germany has sharpened considerably. Countless politicians are calling for tougher action and climate activists are increasingly being attacked on social networks. (SDA)
