Bernhard Pulver (57), the Bernhard Education Director for many years, wants to become a member of the Council of States. The Greens announced this in the canton of Bern on Thursday. Pulver was a member of the governing council of Bern from 2006 to 2018 and is considered one of the most popular politicians in the canton of Bern.
And that makes him a dangerous competitor for SP crown favorite Flavia Wasserfallen (43). She was nominated by the party to defend the seat of outgoing Hans Stöckli (70).

Pulver’s candidacy greatly reduces Wasserfallen’s chances. The big question is therefore whether she will withdraw her candidacy and participate in the race of the Federal Council. Because after the resignation of Simonetta Sommaruga (62) on Wednesday, another seat suddenly has to be filled.
Wasserfallen told the SDA news agency that she was considering running for the Federal Council but wanted to talk to her family and her party first.
Hot race for the Council of States
The two seats in the Council of States in Bern are again in great demand. The FDP will appear with Grand Councilor Sandra Hess, with the middle one nominated by National Councilor Lorenz Hess. The Green Liberals and the EPP are also expected to run for office.
Pulver, currently president of the Insel Hospital Group, said he wanted to help develop viable solutions to the great challenges of our time. There is an urgent need for “strategies against global warming, the global threat to democracy and for the maintenance of social cohesion”. (sf/SDA)
