The Corona autumn wave has now also caught Central Federal Councilor Viola Amherd (60). The defense minister tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday and is in isolation, the “Aargauer Zeitung” reports. But given the circumstances, she’s fine. Amherd is expected to attend the Federal Council meeting online on Wednesday.
Amherd is the sixth member of the Bundesrat this year infected with the corona virus. Although all federal councilors have been vaccinated and reinforced, only FDP magistrate Karin Keller-Sutter (58) has been spared so far.
Peak not yet reached
The coming weeks and months will show whether this continues to be the case. Experts expect the corona wave to rise again. “The number of cases is likely to increase again in the coming weeks for seasonal reasons alone,” said the canton’s top doctor Rudolf Hauri, 62, in a Blick interview recently. “The peak of the autumn wave has certainly not yet been reached.”
The new sub-variant BQ.1.1, which has now also arrived in Switzerland, is partly responsible for the faster spread of the corona virus. (Russian)
