Still 335 francs: Commission does not want to reduce Serafe compensation

Albert Rösti wants to reduce the Serafe fee to 300 francs.

The responsible committee of the National Council currently rejects the proposed reduction of the Federal Council’s radio and TV rates from 335 to 300 francs. First, there must be a review of the SRG concession with an associated service mandate. “Before we determine how much money the SRG should receive in the future, we must talk about what offer it should actually offer,” Commission President Philipp Kutter (48) told Blick. “That should be enough to talk about in parliament.” The amount of radio and TV information should therefore only be discussed after an interpretation of the future of the SRG.

Media Minister Albert Rösti (56) announced at the end of November that he would reduce the contribution to 300 francs, thus taking the wind out of the sails of an initiative from SVP circles. The so-called halving initiative aims to reduce the media fee to 200 francs in the future. Spicy: Rösti himself is on the initiative committee – even though he has not been active there since his election as a member of the Federal Council.

Even SVP members are against the Rösti proposal

The committee unanimously approved its recommendation to the Federal Council. This means: even the SVP members in the KVF-N are critical of Rösti’s proposed reduction in Serafe fees. But Kutter says: “Even Federal Councilor Albert Rösti would prefer such an approach if it were not for the time pressure of the halving initiative.”

However, the Commission cannot prevent the reduction. Since the amount of compensation is regulated by regulation, only the Federal Council determines this.

The SRG assumes that the tax cut will lead to a decrease in revenue of approximately 240 million francs and a reduction of approximately 900 SRG jobs in all regions. According to SRG, the measure would also have consequences for sports reporting at major events. The number of supported Swiss series and films and the broadcasting of cultural events should be reduced. (sf/dba/SDA)
