Sommaruga will work again from Monday

Simonetta Sommaruga had to cancel her appointments this week.

Lukas Hartmann is doing a little better again. The Ministry of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (UVEK) announced last Monday that Sommaruga was absent due to her husband’s ill health.

Sommaruga, 62, a federal councilor since 2010 and president of the confederation in 2015 and 2020, is married to 78-year-old writer Lukas Hartmann. This was “in good hands” in the hospital, according to the UVEK on Monday.

When a federal councilor is absent, it is common for department representatives to replace her — for example, at committee meetings or appointments outside the administration.

A few weeks ago, Lukas Hartmann published his latest book. “Into the Unknown” is the name of the historical novel set in Switzerland and the Soviet Union. (SDA/dba)
