To vote, Russian citizens must have a valid Russian passport. According to the embassy, approximately 16,200 Russians live in Switzerland.

Two polling stations

According to Russian electoral law, voters in foreign polling stations are registered directly on the electoral rolls on election day at their personal verbal request. The elections will take place next Sunday in two polling stations from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.: in Bern at the Russian Embassy and in Geneva at the Russian Permanent Representation.

It is difficult to estimate how many eligible Russians will actually participate in the elections, which are considered non-democratic. Exiled Russian dissident associations, opponents of President Vladimir Putin or fundamental opponents of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine have called for a boycott of the elections – and want to be present in Bern and Geneva on Sunday.
