After a record number of discrimination cases in 2022, four percent more reports were received last year with 132 cases, the Deaf Association wrote in a statement on Tuesday. It should also be assumed that the number of unreported cases is high. Most cases were reported in the areas of employment, education, health care and AIDS financing.

Deaf people depend on the ability to communicate in sign language. Clear communication between doctor and patient is crucial, especially in the healthcare sector. Misunderstandings can lead to health risks, the report said.

Deaf people are still too often excluded and do not receive equal rights and opportunities. However, the protection and guarantee of human rights and fundamental freedoms of people with disabilities are guaranteed by the Federal Constitution.
