Dear employee: Today, 37,655 government employees in Bern received an invitation to an online course on “diversity and inclusion”. The discrimination-free workplace learning program is mandatory.

“The Federal Human Resources Conference has decided that federal government employees must complete a short training on the norms and values in dealing with diversity and inclusion,” continues the letter, which is available to Blick.

When requested, a spokesperson for the Federal Human Resources Office (EPA) said the program is intended to raise awareness among federal government managers and employees “based on concrete situations in everyday working life where the topic of diversity (opportunities and challenges) ) ) plays a role.” “For example, how does a team respond when a team member goes on maternity leave, or how does it deal with someone with a disability.” The course “describes the situation from different perspectives, provides suggestions for action and evaluates them”.

The training costs 50,000 francs

The training can be followed on the computer and takes fifteen minutes. According to the EPA, employees must be “actively involved.” Apprentices, interns and FDFA outposts are excluded.
The entire exercise is justified in the following words: “Promoting diversity (inclusion approach) in the federal government (official languages, genders, generations) and a discrimination-free workplace are important components of federal personnel policy.”

The federal government commissioned the Swiss company MPS Europa to develop it – through proper tenders, as the EPO emphasizes. The cost was approximately 50,000 francs.
