Council of States wants to investigate: new nuclear power plant as “possible scenario”

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 iQNQmc”>

FDP President Thierry Burkart (48) has reason to smile again after Sunday’s defeat in the vote: on Wednesday the Council of States approved his proposal entitled “Enable continuation of the existing nuclear power plants”.

However, this is only a postulate. The The board only needs to process various explanations in a report and ultimately submit it to parliament.

In the report requested by Burkart, the state government must show how the electricity mix in Switzerland is developing and how many power stations need to be built by 2030. This is so that the existing nuclear power plants can be decommissioned without any risk to security of supply.

“The construction of new nuclear power plants should also be a possible scenario if the expansion of other low-emission capacities is too slow,” Burkart writes.
