This increases the autonomy of federal real estate in the electricity sector, the Federal Council writes in a report published on Wednesday. The more extensive energy production from renewable sources contributes to a more secure power supply.
Parliament got the ball rolling with two motions tabled. The two approaches require an investment plan to equip all suitable federal government roof and facade areas with photovoltaic systems within twelve years.
The costs for the installations are estimated at CHF 143.4 million. Any additional investments, such as for roof renovations, are not included. For the expansion of photovoltaic installations, other zones must be examined in addition to the roof and facade surfaces, as the Federal Council writes. He mentions, for example, noise barriers, existing roofs, carports or fences.
The Federal Building and Real Estate Service (BLO) and the Federal Road Service Astra are responsible for the implementation of the solar offensive. The federal government wants to use an online monitor to regularly document expansion status.
