The time-out of SP co-leader Cédric Wermuth (38) is a thorn in the side of SVP state councilor Andreas Glarner (61). “We are happy if Wermuth is not in the Bundestag,” he says ironically. “But not at the expense of the taxpayer!” No Büezer could afford that.
SP co-chairman and national councilor Wermuth took a two-month break. He reports that he was relaxing with his family during a vacation in Vietnam and the Philippines. The SP member only really retired after the autumn elections and the replacement election for the retiring federal councilor Alain Berset (51). His parliamentary work has been suspended since Christmas and he has been represented in committees.
But this is actually contrary to parliamentary law: “The councilors are obliged to attend the meetings of the councils and committees,” Article 10 states. However, national and state councilors can stay away from the meetings, for example for health reasons. Wermuth did not specify this.
SVP Council Member Glarner therefore calls for consequences. With a motion he has just submitted, he wants to instruct the municipal office to amend the Parliamentary Resources Act “so that any voluntary absences such as time off or holidays of 14 days or more lead to a reduction in annual income and compensation. ” A member of the National Council alone receives almost 60,000 francs in lump sum salary and expenses. With meeting fees, pension provisions and other benefits, the average is 132,500 francs per year.
SP co-leader Wermuth, however, is convinced that he has done nothing wrong. “There is an absence of council members at almost every committee meeting. “This has various private and professional reasons,” he explained to Blick. Moreover, he was not absent on any hearing day.
Wermuth does not elaborate on whether he will return or donate the financial compensation for his National Council mandate that he receives from the Confederation, pro rata for the two months of vacation. Nor how he financially managed his absence within his party.
SVP-Glarner no longer wants to be dependent on volunteers in the future. He insists on clear rules. Even in the case of shorter absences of 14 days or more, the annual income and compensation must be adjusted accordingly. “Anything else is a mockery of the taxpayer.”
