Swiss airports registered a total of 53.3 million passengers in scheduled and charter traffic in 2023. Compared to the previous year, the number of passengers increased by 22 percent, the Federal Statistical Office (BFS) announced on Friday.
In absolute figures, 9.7 million more passengers were registered in civil aviation than in 2022. However, the number of passengers was still nine percent below the level of 2019, the year before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the BFS known.
The number of flight movements – i.e. take-offs and landings – also increased in 2023 compared to the previous year: 15 percent more flight movements were registered, for a total of 408,957. According to the BFS, flight movements were also below the level of the pre-pandemic year 2019. For comparison: 13 percent fewer flight movements were registered in 2023.
In contrast to passenger transport, freight transport decreased in 2023 compared to 2022: the number of tonnes transported decreased by two percent – compared to 2019, there were even 20 percent fewer freight transports. (SDA)
