IV valuation company Pmeda has filed a criminal complaint against members of the Quality Assurance Commission for defamation and unfair competition. The focus of the advertisement is on Michael Liebrenz as chairman of the Commission and the head of the department, Roman Schleifer. The third accused is Katharina Prelicz-Huber, national councilor of the Green Party, who is closely involved in the IV issue.

The Bern Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed a corresponding report from “Weltwoche” to the Observer. Henning Mast, founder and expert of Pmeda, which is in liquidation according to the trade register, could not be reached for an explanation despite repeated attempts.

Pmeda has been repeatedly criticized in the past for the quality of its reports. It was suspected that the company would issue reports as a courtesy. In the Federal Parliament it was the subject of no fewer than 78 proposals and investigations. Whether or not an IV pension is granted depends largely on the decisions of the IV experts. They therefore play a key role in determining the future fate of those affected. The Observer has reported on several cases.

In October last year, the Federal Social Insurance Agency (BSV) announced that the disability insurer would no longer award contracts for medical reports to Pmeda. This decision was based on formal and substantive shortcomings. This was determined by the Federal Commission for Quality in Medical Reviews (EKQMB).

Message “incomprehensible”

The EKQMB report criticizes, among other things, ‘incomplete summaries of medical and professional documents’, ‘inadequate documentation of medical history’ and ‘lack of transparency in the validation of complaints’. In many of the 32 reports, “the medical and insurance reasoning is not understandable,” the report concludes.

Following the termination by the BSV, Pmeda criticized a “year-long campaign by lawyers for victims” and wrote that “the actions of these authorities are frightening” in terms of the rule of law. Following this assessment, the criminal complaint can probably be dismissed. When asked by the Observer, the accused Michael Liebrenz, Roman Schleifer and Katharina Prelicz-Huber said they had no official knowledge of the criminal complaint and therefore could not comment on it.
