The high number of asylum seekers causes problems for the authorities. The federal asylum centers have reached their capacity limit. According to the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), some of the asylum seekers will be allocated to the cantons earlier than before to guarantee housing for all asylum seekers.

The cantons must prepare to temporarily host up to a thousand asylum seekers a week instead of the previous 500 people, the SEM statement said. The population would be distributed among the cantons in proportion to the number of inhabitants.

The asylum seekers are referred to the cantons within less than the usual 140 days. With this measure, the federal asylum seekers centers will remain open for new asylum seekers, according to the SEM. (SDA)
