The farmers’ association (SBV) announced on Monday that the petition, signed by 65,000 people, was also aimed against the ‘mania for regulation’ in the agricultural sector. In Switzerland, farmers would face increasingly higher requirements, where the maximum compensation would remain the same and the administrative burden would increase. The petition therefore does not call for new environmental requirements that would not be compensated.
According to the SBV, four other delegations handed over the petition to the management of Migros in Zurich, Coop in Basel, Aldi in Schwarzenbach SG and Lidl in Weinfelden TG. In retail, the emphasis is on producer prices that are too low; these would not be able to cover the increased production costs. As a result, already low incomes in agriculture have fallen further. The signatories consider an increase in producer prices of at least five percent necessary this year.
Due to the tense financial situation, the Federal Council wants to spend a total of 347 million francs less on agriculture between 2026 and 2029. The proposal had difficulty with parties and associations at the end of the consultation in January. (SDA)
