They want nothing less than a communist revolution in their lifetime. That is why next weekend about 300 comrades will establish the Revolutionary Communist Party (RPK) in Biel BE.

The problem they have identified is that capitalism is at an insurmountable historical impasse. The RKP will therefore fight for nothing less than “the world communist revolution by the working class”. Humanity, and indeed all human potential, must be “truly liberated.”

Behind the self-proclaimed “largest communist recruitment in over 100 years” is the Marxist movement “The Funke”. She officially launched the campaign with a press conference in Bern on Thursday.

“I don’t want to be elected to any office.”

According to their information, 35 percent of the Swiss population already supports the abolition of capitalism. But there is no revolutionary party that will enable them to overcome their isolation and passivity.

The communists want to change that. And they set themselves ambitious goals: within three months the party must have 500 members throughout Switzerland, generate 70,000 francs in donations and sell 5,000 copies of the newspaper “Der Kommunist”.

“We are not interested in being elected to any office to manage the ruling system there,” explains Dersu Heri, 33, editor-in-chief of “The Communist.” Because: You have no illusion that you can make capitalism more beautiful or more human. Rather, it is about bringing together everyone who wants to fight against capitalism in a ‘fighting organization’.

Juso is not afraid of communists

Revolution in Switzerland, is that realistic? “That is completely realistic,” says Heri. And refers to the Röstigraben. Four major strikes have taken place in Geneva in recent weeks: in the public sector, among bus and tram drivers, at the airport and also among teachers. “All this was of course hushed up by the German-speaking Swiss media. The working class in Geneva has entered the class struggle.”

However, the Young Socialists (Juso) are not afraid of competition from the left. “We recognize the founding of the RKP,” says Juso chairman Nicola Siegrist (27). On Thursday, his party presented the initiative ‘For a social climate policy – ​​fairly financed from taxes (Initiative for a Future)’. With more than 140,000 signatures. The initiative calls for taxing inheritances and donations of more than 50 million francs for climate protection. “The success of our initiative is sufficient proof of the political relevance of the Juso,” said Siegrist.

The last national Communist Party was banned in 1940. After merger negotiations with the SP failed, the Labor Party (PdA) was founded in 1944 as a new collective movement of communists. The PdA achieved a voter share of 0.72 percent in the 2023 National Council elections.
