The federal government, cantons and hospitals want to take new measures to combat infections in hospitals. The national roadmap published on Tuesday aims to reduce the number of infections in hospitals by a third by 2035.
About six percent of all patients in Swiss hospitals contract an infection during their hospital stay, as the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) wrote in the statement. This means that our country is located in the middle of Europe. According to the BAG roadmap, this number should be reduced to five percent by 2030 and to four percent by 2035.
According to the BAG, wound infections after surgical procedures and blood poisoning are often associated with serious consequences. But the lungs and urinary tract are also at risk and susceptible to infections after a medical procedure.
In concrete terms, the roadmap offers various instruments for monitoring and prevention. This includes on-boarding training for all new employees, as well as certain monitoring systems. According to the BAG, individual hospitals must now set their own goals and priorities based on the national roadmap. (SDA)
