Thanks to warm months: winter savings target for gas will soon be achieved

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 iQNQmc”>

At the beginning of winter, Swiss households and companies used less gas than before. Due to the high temperatures, less heating was required. (subject image)

From October to December 2023, about 71 percent of the intended total amount has already been saved, according to a statement on Wednesday. The savings target must be achieved by the end of March 2024.

According to the Federal Council, the above-average temperatures in October and December, the still high customer prices and the increased awareness of the tense gas supply situation may have contributed to the reduction in Swiss gas consumption. Due to the current situation, no additional savings measures are needed in the gas sector for the current winter.

Switzerland has joined the EU gas savings target in solidarity, but, like the EU, has decided not to set an electricity savings target for the current winter.
